Question:
To me, my children have always and will always come first. But my fiance’s daughter and my two daughters (1st, 2nd and 3rd grades) do not get along very well. Plus he has a 10th grade daughter which is totally foreign to me. My girls are very self disciplined, polite, respectful and honest. His daughters get into trouble at school, are mouthy, disrespectful and not so truthful. This is a constant source of “discussion” with us and I was hoping that it would get better as time went on. But it has been 18 months now and I still find myself explaining to my girls about his daughters negative behaviors. His attitude is that they are just kids so they rarely have any consequences to their actions. Where as my girls do. Other than going super drastic and separating up weekends with the kids, how do I make him see that he is doing his girls a disservice in the long run? Also, I have known people to divorce over the blended family children not getting along. I do not want this to happen! Thanks for any advice.
Hummmm, I knew I would get the “your kids are perfect and his are bad” comment. That is not it at all. Different values and upbringing is the issue. My girls still get in trouble. They are not little soldiers. But they know that if they do, there will be consequences. My ex-husband and I get a long better now than we did the last 5 of 12 years of marraige. And we have always been on the same page with disciplining. This is just something new to me and I was asking for advice, not to be attacked. Thank you to those who have given me ideas and things to think about.
